In2green Photoshoot Diary: Finding the perfect setting to shoot our sustainable Equestrian Collection had us searching rural locations from New England to the Midwest, but once we discovered Virginia’s 2,500-acre Oxbow Farm, we knew we’d found our dream backdrop for our eco throws.
With rolling hills, tall reeds, and protected wildflowers, the working farm occupies a conservation easement on the banks of the Shenandoah River and today produces hay, straw, and beef cattle using environmentally friendly methods. The owners of the farm work tirelessly to provide a habitat for native plants and animals; their warm-season grasses attract migratory birds and nesting for endangered species including quail. Enjoying the sanctuary for retired Clydesdale horses and Pitchfork grey quarter horses, we couldn’t have imagined a better location or more like-minded partners in our sustainability mission!

In preparation for the shoot, we visited the farm in both spring and fall, and, on the day, worked with models from an amazing local equine gift and supply store, Tri-County Feeds www.tricountyfeeds.com, as well as Oxbow’s own four-legged stars. The result is our Equestrian Collection in its natural habitat — riding motifs and horse imagery on display against the lush greens and agrarian architecture of a working Virginia Farm. As you can see from our candids, there were smiles all around!
After photographing our wide line of equestrian throw blankets and equestrian ponchos, we found it hard to leave the farm without a nod to our equestrian Kids & Baby Collection. Who doesn’t love a beautiful day at a farm! Playing with our little throws in a field with miniature donkeys and ponies was the perfect way to end our day.
